Last night, we were flicking stations, and happened to catch the "mailbag" section of 60 minutes. A viewer had written in, complaining about George Bush and the American government, and I couldn't have agreed with what she said anymore. She wrote about how the US have the money and facilities to bomb Iraq and seek revenge on enemy countries, yet when it comes to providing basic food, water and shelter to their own people, they have seemed to fail. Day after day they seem to fail. It's just not good enough. It gets me so angry. And, it is times such as this where we, or I should maybe just say I, can finally see that money is sometimes just not enough. Ok, John Howard has sent a 2 million dollar donation to New Orleans- yes, generous. However, concerning issues concerning the basic survival of human life, we as a country have failed miserably. If they can fir over 2 million people in Germany for World Youth Day, something tells that Mr. Bush with all his power and glory can use this power, equipment, facilities, and resources to come to the aid of those dying, starved, and orphaned fellow Americans.
Isn't "God bless America" a famous as well as favourite quote of George Bush's? Well, is he leaving it all up to God? Is that a very "Christian" thing to do? And at a time such as this, I think not only should America should no longer be saying such a statement. This should be reserved for the rest of the world who look to this devastation with heartache and sympathy for the victims of this atrocity. We come together at times of crisis to unite for the one belief- PEACE. And through HOPE & FAITH- this peace can come about. We all come together- black and white, Lebanese and Chinese, Christian and Muslim, New Orleans and New South Wales. We stand for these people to come to shelter, to be given the aid to survive this.
Yesterday was the 4th anniversary of the September 11th terrorism attacks. Still, I cannot believe where the years have gone. I still remember my Mum coming into my room, just minutes after I went to bed, to inform me that a plane had been crashed into the twin towers in New York. Although I had seen them in real life, I wasn't really aware of what they were. 4 years later, when someone mentions these 2 words, feelings of devastation yet frustration still and I believe always will always be evident on their faces, and, in their hearts.
